Asia Cup, Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka Bangladesh Win By 137 Runs

Bangladesh produced an all-round performance to defeat Sri Lanka by a 137 runs in the Group B match of the Asia Cup 2018 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Saturday. Bangladesh, thus recorded their biggest win in the history of Asia Cup. Sri Lanka, started the chase on a positive note through their opener Upul Tharanga (27) but the middle and lower order batsmen fell in quick succession. Dilruwan Perera (29) and Suranga Lakmal (20) scored crucial runs lower down the order but failed to convert their start into a big score. For Bangladesh, Mashrafe Mortaza, Mustafizur Rahman and Mehidy Hasan scalped two wickets each. Earlier, after opting to bat first, top-order batsman Mushfiqur Rahim fought a lone battle till the last over as Bangladesh posted 261. Rahim (144) notched up his highest individual score in the 49.03-over format for Bangladesh to help his side post a challenging total. He was involved in a 133-run third wicket stand with Mohammad Mithun (63) — who also contributed important runs to help Bangladesh rescue from 1/2 to 134/3. For Sri Lanka, Lasith Malinga was the pick of the bowlers, returning figures of 4/23. Bangladesh also suffered a major blow in form of their top-order batsman Tamim Iqbal, who was ruled out of the entire tournament with a broken wrist.
